Room to Read Scholarship for Girls

In the rural mountains, girls are often pulled out of school early to attend to domestic chores and look after younger siblings. To provide opportunities for girls to attend school on a continuing basis and complete their education till the 12th standard, a scholarship program was launched under sponsorship from Room to Read.

The girls chosen have a basic minimum academic standing and are from families who find it difficult to afford their education. A total of 45 girls (12 from Aarohi Bal Sansar and 33 from three government schools) are currently supported by this programme.

The aim of the program is to provide long term scholarships, at least till class 12, allowing the girls an opportunity to gain the life long gift of education and take control of their lives. Besides covering tuition fee, books and stationery, schools dress and accessories, the scholarship affords opportunities for girls to participate in theatre workshops, sewing and embroidery classes, tuitions in mathematics and science and educational tours.
